Located on Nebo Road in what is now part of Hamilton, Ontario, George Washington Johnson left Margaret’s family home to go for a walk in early 1864. By the time he returned to his ailing fiancee’s bedside he had started writing “When You and I were young, Maggie.” Unfortunately, Margaret succumbed to tuberculosis in 1865 and is buried not far from her parents home or the church her and George married, seven months before her death.
