Katherine Thompson Waddell was born in Ottawa, Ontario, June 26, 1864. She died in Ottawa, Ontario, November 25, 1926. She is buried with her family on a hill at the back of Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa, Ontario.
She met poet Archibald Lampman, between 1887-1889, while working as an employee in the Secretary’s Department of the Post Office.
While rumours regarding their relationship still linger almost a century after her death, Lampman’s book “Lampman’s Kate: Late Love Poems of Archibald Lampman” wasn't published until 1975.
After Lampman’s untimely death in 1899, Katherine Waddell commissioned a plaque, in his honour, at her church, St. Margaret’s Anglican, on Montreal Rd, in Ottawa. The plaque is still there. Lampman's book is long out-of-print.
